Our engineers found the perfect combination of a coffee maker that will last decades, filters the grounds completely and doesn’t break the bank. The Secura stainless steel French press features quality materials (304 Stainless Steel) and has a super high adjusted review rating on Amazon (4.8).
1 – Stainless French Press
This stainless steel French Press was by far the best mix of taste, ease of use, and durability. Old style French Presses were typically made of glass and frequently broke. A stainless steel one that is well constructed will last a lifetime, and the one made by Secura is just that.
The double-walled design acts similar to the old-school thermos to keep your coffee hot for a long time. The handle to body weld was very strong, and the lid and filter were all made from stainless steel.
If there was a weak point it would be that the filter will need replacing eventually. That’s why we like that the Secura’s filter can be replaced, and it came with an additional filter in the box.
2 – AeroPress
The AeroPress came in a close second in our testing. Strangely, it was invented by the maker of the Aerobie frisbee. The AeroPress gets rave reviews from the coffee community for its ease of use and great taste. We loved the taste, and it is more versatile than the French Press. You can make almost espresso level coffee with this tool.
The downside to the AeroPress is the single cup serving size and the plastic design. We think the plastic will last for years, but will eventually break. That makes this less than a Buy It For Life item.
If you do go with the AeroPress, we recommend buying an additional stainless steel filter to go with your setup and watching some YouTube tutorials on how to best brew with this method.
8 – Drip Coffee Maker
With coffee experts, it is a common opinion that even the best drip coffee maker can’t compete in taste with the other methods we tested. From a longevity standpoint, the introduction of electronics and heating elements, not to mention a glass carafe, make this an item that will break easily.

The Stainless Steel French Press that is our winner had over 24,000 reviews on Amazon as of the time of this review. Review Meta gave it a score of 4.8 and removed zero fake reviews, which is pretty unheard of.

MATERIALS
The materials that each coffee brewing appliance is made of makes a huge difference in ruggedness and longevity.
GLASS & CERAMIC
There is pottery in museums that is thousands of years old, so this material can last. The issue is one drop or sudden change in temperature (or opera singer) can crack this material and leave it useless.
METAL
We like things made of metal at Stubborn Gear. Metal in general will outlast glass and plastic. However, not all metal is the same quality. Steel can rust, stainless steel has different grades, and aluminum and copper can have issues when placed next to dissimilar metals.
